Contemporary Agricultural

A farmhouse renovation with a contemporary extension, this project had a new gravel drive, large terrace, contemporary steel outbuilding and plant borders in a prairie style. A field and orchard previously grazed was left to meadow with paths mown to create fun and mystery and attract wildlife.  The terrace is granite to create a contemporary look and planting is abundant and colourful to soften this.  The drive area is retained with a curved steel edge and planting is shade and dry loving based on textural shapes, ferns, grasses and sedums.  Farm salvage is used as sculpture and planters throughout the garden, the greys of steel being contrasted by the fresh greens and soft purples and pinks of the naturalistic planting.

Appleton Farmhouse was runner up in Build It magazine’s ‘Best Self Build’ award category 2019 for work to the house and surrounding garden.
