Beautiful, functional gardens that borrow from the surrounding environment

Originally working in sales and marketing for investment companies and hedge funds in the City of London, Julia became dissillusioned with her career during the difficult times of 2008/09. With a yearning to retrain in something practical, creative, and with an outdoor focus that would complement family life, Julia embarked on retraining as a garden designer at Hadlow College and University of Greenwich.

Julia has a strong naturalistic style, using plants and artisan materials to harmonise the garden into its surroundings.

During her formative training at Hadlow College, Julia achieved the Ann Wright scholarship to work and train under the tutelage of Fergus Garrett at Great Dixter Charitable Trust, home of the late Christopher Lloyd. Julia’s scholarship experience at Great Dixter further enhanced her knowledge of structure, colour, successional planting, meadows, biodiversity and local countryside crafts.

Since graduating from the University of Greenwich with a BA (Hons) in garden design, Julia has set up her own practice and built and planted gardens across Kent, Sussex and South East London. Julia has amassed a wealth of experience including her own complete self-build farmhouse renovation. A contemporary new extension to the original farmhouse, along with development of the garden and grounds. The project was featured extensively in ‘Built It’ Magazine and attained runner up in the ‘Self Build of the Year’ competition.

Julia’s has been shortlisted for 2 planting design awards and most recently her Rockbed Garden has been shortlisted for the ProLandscaper Project Design Award under £50k.

Julia continued to grow her design practice from a series of regular gardening rounds and planting projects, giving her a strong understanding of how gardens change with the seasons and how a garden is a ‘series of moments’. Julia has been runner up twice for her planting designs in the Pro-Landscaper, ‘Small Project, Big Impact’ awards.

Julia’s style leans towards contemporary with simple hard materials and a layer of naturalistic planting to soften and bring an ethereal feel. ‘Every garden should feel magical’.
