The Railway Garden

The Railway Garden takes its inspiration from the nearby heritage railway line, glimpsed beyond the garden and woven into the design concept. Two long, railway-inspired pathways create a sense of movement through the space, guiding you on a journey from one end of the garden to the other.

Natural slate stepping stones are paired with traditional red brick, a material chosen to echo the neighbouring Victorian railway cottages and give the garden a strong sense of place. The combination of materials feels timeless and sits comfortably within its surroundings.

Planting is generous and layered, bringing year-round texture, colour and seasonal interest. Designed with wildlife in mind, the borders are rich in nectar-producing plants that attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators, while providing valuable habitat for birds and invertebrates.

Despite its urban setting, the garden has become a peaceful sanctuary where people and wildlife can thrive side by side—a space that celebrates movement, nature and a strong connection to its local heritage.
